Sew Yourself Some Love: Mama Stella and Mama Bridgette Bralette by Made for Mermaids

Today our second installment of the Sew Yourself Some Love feature.  Heather joins us with the Mama Stella and the Mama Bridgette Bralette by Made for Mermaids.  Heather found that by branching out she got an amazing new look and gained some additional sewing confidence!  Make sure to follow along with us this week as the team continues to sew themselves some LOVE!

Hello! Heather from All Things Katy!, here. For this year’s Sew Yourself Some Love (SYSL), I went waayyyyy out of my comfort zone and tried something completely different…! I sewed up the Made for Mermaids- Mama Stella Sweater Top and Mama Bridgette Bralette. Both items are part of their new “Lounge and Lace Collection.”

Before this point in time, I had never sewn my own lingerie. Heck, I don’t even own a ready-to-wear bralette (let alone try to make one!).  I won’t lie- it IS one of the more labor-intensive patterns I’ve sewn to date. However, thanks to the tutorial’s detailed pictures, written instructions and included video tutorial links, I was able to sew my first Mama Bridgette Bralette in about three hours- whew! For a point of reference, I sewed up a size 36” band, C cups in cotton lycra, stretch lace yardage for the racerback and lingerie elastic for edges.

In order to show off my new bralette, I just had to make a Made for Mermaids Mama Stella Sweater Top! ;-) I made a size purple, keyhole back, ¾ sleeves, Mama Stella Sweater in French Terry main and cotton lycra neckband. I did NOT adjust for my height (5’-0”) and cut the top length knowing that it would fit me like a tunic. Thanks to the sleeve and waistbands (i.e. no hemming) the Mama Stella Sweater Top was quick and easy to sew up!

I LOVED learning something new- the bralette- and sewing something comfy and easy to wear- the sweater top! So, whether you decide to step out of your comfort zone by trying out a new pattern and/or technique, or sewing up a trusty favorite pattern, go ahead and sew yourself some love! :-)
