Hello there!  This is Sarah and I am here today with a review of the FooFoo Threads Roxanne Cap Sleeve Knit Bodice Dress.  This is a dress that I have been wanting to try for my daughter for awhile so I was excited for the opportunity to sew it up.  My older daughter just turned 10 and she is starting to outgrow the overly ruffled look and wants dresses that are comfortable to wear.  She is also a gamer and one of her current favorites is Pokemon.  So I thought this would be the perfect dress for her with its comfortable knit bodice and using some Pokemon Fabric I found at Joann Fabrics.  I had a knit stripe in my stash from PurpleSeamstress that I paired it with.

I made the size 10 dress for my daughter, but this pattern comes in a HUGE size spread; starting at 3-6 months up to 11/12 girls and also XXS-XXL in women's.  I don’t really do dresses, but I think I might try a peplum type version for myself too.  The skirt can be tiered (which I chose) or paneled and it also includes instructions for making a tulle overlay for the skirt.  There are also tips on creating ruffled details for the skirt and bodice.  The knit bodice is very quick and straightforward.  The bodice is also fully lined, which I like if I am going to add embroidery to a bodice (I did not do that this time, but I’ll put it on my “to do” list!) The fit was great and my daughter absolutely loved it.  I did have some wonky stretching when I topstitched that made my bodice a little weird along the top edge, but that was totally my fault for trying to use a stretch stitch to topstitch instead of rethreading my coverstitch :( It laid beautifully before I did that.

We really enjoyed this dress; me, because it was cute, simple to make and had great range and options, and her because it is comfortable and cute, plus it features her favorite characters.  Judging from the claims of injustice when my younger daughter saw the dress, she liked it as well so I am calling it a win all around!

Until next time,

Sarah

Wondering what Roxanne Looks like in Women's Sizes?

Here's Lisa's Lisa made the panel skirt version. So cute. And how about that vintage Walkman she pulled out to go with that fabric, pretty fabulous!
