Berry Bubble Shorts by Mummykins and Me

It's that time of the year again!  The birds begin to chirp, green sprouts start shooting out of the earth, and the smell of a spring rain is in the air.   It's the beginning of the promise of warmer weather and longer nights.  I just love it!  Another thing I love: it's also time to start sewing for that warmer weather.  Which means cute little shorts to show off cute little toddler legs!

Goodness, do I have the cutest pair for you!  When I first saw the sneak of the Berry Bubble shorts I wanted them sooo bad.  Needless to say I was sooo excited to be able to review them.  And let me tell you, Mummykins and Me (the designer behind these oh so cute shorts) did not disappoint in the least!  The Berry Bubble shorts come in a slew of sizes from 0-3mo to 12yrs.  Some of the amazing features of the pattern include bubble or non bubble version, regular or button elastic waistband, and fully lined!  Now you may be thinking that these are cute but only good for warmer weather.  Wrong!  They look so fabulous with tights under too!  Let me tell you about my favorite part of the pattern though...the tutorial.  Yes, I found the tutorial to be very detailed and the tips throughout are spot on.  Probably one of the most enjoyable tutorials I have used, to be truthful.  This is an intermediate pattern, due to all the detail and finishing, and does take a little time to sew up.  The finished results are soooo worth it though.  You won't be disappointed in these at all.

For my shorts I made a size 18-24months for my little girl.  The fit was amazing on her.  That being said I made her shorts from the baby sizes which seemed to run perfect to size, however I would suggest making a muslin as the non-baby sizes seemed to run a bit big according to our other sample sewers.  For my shorts I did have to shorten the elastic as I always do for her skinny waist.  I also found that putting interfacing along the whole front yoke and side yokes made it stand perfect especially when just using cotton woven for the shorts.  Now, me being crazy and all, decided to use 1/4" bias tape to bind the pockets and legs.  It was a challenge but I was successful, remind me not to do that again though!  There is a reason it calls for 1/2” bias tape.  I am just in love with the end results though.  Did I already say that?  Must be true then!

To pair with my shorts I needed an equally cute shirt to go with it.  So Leah's Wrap Top from A Simple Life Pattern Company was perfect.  I used the binding that I used on the shorts for the neckline to coordinate.  I also made a pleat in the sleeves instead of gathering to give a little poof.  I just love the wrap around style with the bow at the side.   It was a little on the long side to really show off the shorts, so I just tucked it in and it still worked perfect. You may notice it does look slightly big on my petite girl.  That is because the pattern starts at 2T and she is just shy of that size yet.  I didn't care though as I knew it would look amazing with these shorts.  It sure did!

This outfit is definitely a winner.  After our photo shoot baby girl said to me, "I keep on!"  This was a demand not a request, mind you.  She is a 2.5yr old with a mind of her own!  This is a pretty big deal as after a photo shoot she usually strips down to her diaper again as that seems to be her outfit of choice lately.  So for her to actually want to wear clothes around the house is quite a big deal.  I have never sewn something from Mummykins and Me but I can't wait to sew up some more of her patterns now.  After sewing this one, I am a fan!
