I don’t make things for myself too often, but when I do I try to make a matching dress/top/skirt for my daughter. When I saw Elia by Little Lizard King, I knew that was a style we would both love and that would be perfect for the springtime weather and cooler evenings we’re experiencing.
For the girl’s Elia, the pattern is a mix between two other LLK favorites, the Glitz and the Leiden. Actually, the Elia tutorial showing how to mash the two patterns is free in girls’ sizes. I loved that in both the women’s and girl’s patterns you are able to use knits and a variety of woven fabrics. For the ones I made, I sewed with rayon for my first time. It feels so silky and soft and is a dream to wear! Our tops button up the back since they are made with a woven fabric, but the knit option does not have a back closure. I did want to note that the woven instructions for the Ladies Elia was not included in the pattern but is on the Little Lizard King blog as a pattern add-on.
I chose to make the dramatic high low hem with ruffles, but there is also a simple skirt (no ruffles) and a moderate high low hem. I love all of the options! You can also chose between two ruffle lengths for the sleeves. I chose the small ruffles on our Elias.
Elia will be a top that my daughter and I will wear as soon as it comes out of the wash every time! We love it so much, and I can’t wait to make more!
