Hi Pattern Revolution readers, Heidi here! I reviewed the updated Ruthie’s Picnic Dress from Foo Foo Threads and boy do I love it. It is the sweetest, girliest pattern. This came just in time for me because we had a family wedding to go to and I knew this dress would be absolutely perfect. I was right - I got so many compliments on it at the wedding!
There are so many options for this dress. I left off the underskirt and ruffle so that mine was vintage length, but there are instructions for adding the underskirt, which is adorable! You can also add pockets or a ruched ruffle to the overskirt. The bib on the front is appliqued on and is the perfect place to add special fabric or even a monogram. I accented the bib with some flat eyelet lace, which I think added the perfect touch.
This pattern is a bit tricky with the bodice ruffles, but the instructions are very clear and easy to follow. The ruffles are by far my favorite part of the dress. They add such a girly, southern touch. I sewed up my dress with some bright Jennifer Paganelli fabric and took the pictures of my daughter at the sunflower farm. I can’t wait to hang these pictures up in our home - this was the perfect outfit for a sweet summertime photoshoot!
If you are wanting a dress with lots of options that is perfect for special occasions, the Ruthie’s Picnic Dress is made for you. I can’t wait to sew up some more of these for Christmas time!
