Boo! Designs: Design Your Own Swimmers

It's getting warmer in the Northern Hemisphere, so we're all thinking about swimwear! So today we have a review of a really versatile, super cute swimsuit pattern from Boo! Designs and in the typical Boo! fashion, there are many options to "design your own"! We even have a great coupon code good through May 8 (US time) for 30% off the Swimmers and Tweenie Bikini patterns!  Use the code SWIM to get this discount...which is even better for US customers since the AUS dollar is low right now! There's a lot to talk about with this pattern, so I won't waste any more of your time. Here are Melissa and Sarah to tell you all about it!

Hello, It's Melissa from Three Dutch Divas!!  The weather is heating up and sunshine is on its way. It's time to start planning your little one's summer wardrobe and that includes swimwear! Here in southern California, my kids are already hitting the beaches and pool, so I am way ahead and here with a new pattern to rave about! I found “Design your own swimmers” from Boo! Designs  and I think it has changed my life!!!

I have three girls that range in age from toddler to pre-teen. So the first thing I noticed was the size range from 2-10! Each of my ladies has their own style and unique body type, so I was SOLD! The pattern offers a one piece suit, variety of tops, rash guards and different bottoms.

I have a few concerns when it comes to outfitting my girls with bathing suits each year. My tween is too big for little girls sizes but not quite age appropriate for the “look” or cut that is on the racks for juniors! I love that the pattern offers different tops and bottoms with a variety of coverage so you can choose what best fits your child and your comfort level. My second challenge is sizing. My almost 10 yr old is 4 and a half feet tall, and weighs about 45lbs! This pattern has step by step directions and illustration to measuring your child, finished measurement charts and a guide for figuring out the correct sizing to ensure you get the right fit! There are actually several pages of tips, tricks and techniques from fit, to choosing types of fabric, stretch, machine feet, seams and more.

I made the tankini top, with classic brief bottoms for my middle daughter. For the first time, she had a suit that fit like a glove!  She decided instead of having me attach the straps in the back, she wanted them left loose so she could tie it as a halter! That is not an option listed in the pattern, but it is a simple change that gives you just one more look! I used the chart to print just the pages I needed and sewed it up during the little ones nap time! This suit was quickly tested and passed! It was comfortable, stayed in place during swimming and play and looked absolutely adorable!
This was my first pattern by Boo! Designs and I love all of the detail, information, and options! I cant wait to make more! So many cute options, Sew little time!

Hello there!  This is Sarah and I am here today with a review of the Design Your Own Swimmers by BOO! Designs.  This is the first BOO! pattern I have ever made and I was pleasantly surprised at the detail and quality of the pattern.  There were details on fabric, sewing techniques, notions needed and more.  The pattern is very professionally polished and the directions were straightforward with enough detail but without being overly wordy.  Making a swimmer of any style can be daunting, but I felt like the directions were sufficient that an advanced beginner would be more than able to tackle the patterns.  Now the slippery swimsuit fabric might be a different story…

I made the raglan rashie and contrast briefs.  I love coverage while we are out in the summer sun and I used a swim fabric rated at 50 UPF.  The rashie provides great coverage and means I only have to do minimal sunscreen application on my little one.  I liked that the rashie was longer in the bodice as well; it provided coverage even as my little one was playing and running around (Why were we playing softball in a swimsuit?  Because she is 4 and has a mind of her own!) The contrast briefs are just adorable and I loved how insanely quick they were to make.  2 seams, 2 bindings and an elastic waist.  That’s ALL.  They took maybe 20 minutes to make.  I love the wide contrast band; it’s adorable they look so cute and comfy on that I think I’ll make her some undies out of the pattern too.  I also loved the number of options the pattern gives you (2 rashies, 2 briefs, boyshorts, tankini top, bikini top and a one-piece.) My older daughter swims, so my next item will be a one-piece for her to use in the lap pool.

Overall I was very pleased with the pattern and the results I got.  I can’t wait to make up another one (or 4 or 5…)

Until next time,
Sarah
