Hey there! I am so excited to share my latest little sewing splurge, the Little Photographer Camera by Swoodson Says. It is so stinkin cute, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to sew one up!

The Little Photographer Camera pattern is an adorable pdf pattern to create a stuffed camera toy. Since my girls love being in front of the camera so much, I knew they would be thrilled to have their own softie camera to play with. These would even make great baby gifts for your photographer friends! The Little Photographer Camera requires little fabric so it’s great for a stash busting project. Some extra materials needed are velcro, clear vinyl (I used a photo book sleeve), bias tape, heat n bond or other fusible material for applique, and stuffing.

The pdf gives printable pieces for all the details shown: dials, flash, lens, etc. and measurements for creating a neck strap or wrist strap, and the connecting border pieces. I used scraps and supplies I had in my stash and sewed this up in about 1.5 hours. The pattern is written for the intermediate level sewist, one who is comfortable with sewing 3D corners, applique, and can stitch a good little curve!

My favorite feature is the little clear pocket where you can store your own photos! Honor thought it was the coolest thing. I knew my purse-loving gal would adore having the neck strap option so she can tote it around town. If you see her, be ready to say “Cheeeeese!”

Thanks Cassie! Now let's check out Serena's version!

Being a photographer has it’s ‘perks’ and photographing your children when they just don’t want to work with you can be a fun ‘perk’! They want to be the one behind the camera, their imaginations are out of this world and the Swoodson’s Little Photographer Camera has made it all fun again. We had a great time at the park today ‘shooting’ each other, and they loved the personal touch with the photo of mom with each of them on their cameras too.

Swoodson Says’ Little Photographer Camera is a plush toy camera for your littles to play pretend, it would even make the perfect baby shower gift! I would call myself an intermediate sewist and they was pretty smooth sailing for me but just tedious. I don’t own an embroidery machine and I tend to get a little anxious when trying to applique that my projects turn out not so professional looking but I was rather pleased with myself after this camera. The tips in the pattern were helpful, go slow, go slow, go slow and all will be well.

I made my two cameras with scraps lying around in my scrap bin, the pattern says you can squeeze one camera out of a fat quarter. I like the hodge-podge look, it makes it more fun with play for the kiddos. The vinyl that the pattern calls for on the back side of the camera can be inexpensive if you save the packaging for undies or bedding, you just need a 3” square. I also used Wonder Under (the pattern suggests it too) to hold down my appliques, there weren’t too many tips to sewing the applique on but the pattern links to a tutorial to help aid you.

I would definitely make this again, it was done from cut to finish in about an hour. This project is not for the ‘perfectionist’, I made a few mistakes when sewing on the outer band that’s really hard to lay perfect; a little tricky but then again, I’m not a perfectionist. It was my first time sewing a toy and I’m so glad I made the leap to try something new, the kids love them!
