The Hampton Romper, Top, and Dress by Made for Mermaids

Yep, looks to me like the new Hampton can be worn in any season and any weather. Here are Cassie and Shae to tell you more about this versatile pattern and show off the Hamptons they made.

Hey all! It’s the crazy cat lady, Cassie of Lily Shine Boutique, here to review the new Hampton pattern by Made for Mermaids. I love anything I can make into a romper as I desperately cling to the remaining toddler years I have left with my youngest girl, so I knew I just had to sew a Hampton Romper up as soon as the pattern released! If you follow my sewing blog, IG, fb, etc. you would definitely see my love for kitty-faced garments, and the Hampton pattern has the perfect blank slate bodice that was just begging to be whiskered! I loved using the Best in Show by Maude Asbury cat print paired with white linen and eyelet. To seriously push the cuteness factor over the edge, I sought out some Hard-to-Find white clear cat shoes by Mini Melissa. I’m not kitten you, this outfit will make your cheeks hurt from grinning! Meowvelous!!!

Ok, enough about the cuteness, let’s talk about this adorable pattern!!! Megan of Made for Mermaids took a retired style from Mud Puddles and Ruffles and gave it some new life! This pattern is written for sizes ½ to girls 8, features the neat layer printing option and can be made into a bubble romper (as shown), a romper in shorts, pant or capri length, a top or a dress. I know the mainland USA is heading into cooler temps, and the Hampton would look darling layered over an easy peasant dress or a long sleeve tee and leggings.

The Hampton pattern includes some really cute details like a contrast waistband, side ties (can be made big, as I chose, or smaller), bodice ruffles, and/or hem ruffles. The sides of the bodice are left open, and the back has an elastic loop and button closure. There are elastic casings in the side of the bottoms to allow for easy on/off and a comfortable fit. I can see this garment being worn over multiple seasons and getting lots of great wear!

The pattern sews up nicely, and includes clear photos to help guide you through the construction process. I would estimate 2-3 hours to construct, depending on which option you choose (allow for more time if you want to add some fun bodice details like a kitty face). I missed the directions to serge or finish the top edges of the bottoms before attaching to the bodice, so I had to do some seam ripping and re-sewing. I know for future sews, it will go much faster! Any ambitious beginner sewist could tackle this pattern thanks to the great sewing tips and easy tutorial to follow along. I love my first Hampton romper, and have great plans to make lots more before my little gal grows out of the romper-age!

Hey, It’s Shae from Saflower Photography and Saflower Designs with another fun review for you!  I had the honor of being able to sew up the new Hampton romper/top/dress pattern from Made For Mermaids.  I just adore things that have a classic vintage look to them, especially a pinafore type pattern!!  I did the top version because it’s what my daughter is into right now and I thought it would make a perfect layering piece for fall.  It went together nice and easily and it only took a few hours to sew up.  There wasn’t really anything tough about this pattern.  I paired it with a pair of shorts I had done for a previous review that can be found here and a white store bought shirt.

The pattern itself is well written and there are plenty of photos to help you along the way.  The back features a unique opening, or you can add more buttons for a more modest look.  The sides have both elastic and ties for a nice fitted and secure fit.  The bodice can be made with or without the ruffles.  I went with the ruffles for more of the vintage look, but I think it would look so cute in a sleeveless version for the summer months.

Overall I am very happy with the look of the Hampton top.  If I were to do it again, I would probably change some of the construction, just so it was closer to my style of sewing.  This is not a knock on the construction, I just like to have all my stuff constructed the same way (when possible).
