The Galaxie 1 Collection by Jalie:

Hi there! Kari here from That’s-Sew-Kari to share the cutest set of bags from Jalie Sewing Patterns. Galaxie 1 is a collection of EIGHT patterns for bags, totes, and pouches of varying size.  Not only are the patterns practical, they are easy to follow and have the greatest names.  They are each named after planets and of course, the bigger the planet, the bigger the bag!

I sewed up two bags - Saturne and Mars - one is for me  to keep and the other is headed to my sister!

First up, I’ll share my sister’s new bag!  This is the Saturne Pattern which is the smaller of the two available in this style.  (Soleil is the larger size).  In the description, it reads that it’s sized right for a lunch box.  I thought it would make a great “to-go” crochet bag to hold the yarn sampler I found for her.  The finished bag is as sturdy as your fabric.  I used a canvas-type fabric from the Maker Maker fabric collection from Andover Fabrics in Grid on Tailored Cloth (Neutral).  There is no lining, unless you choose to add the drawstring bag.  I was impressed that all of the seams are sewn using French seams so my inside is nice and tidy.  The handles are hidden at the top -- just sew slowly over the side seams when you are adding that on, especially if you are using a heavier fabric.

I also added a cute iron-on saying, using my Cricut Maker.  (To make it yourself, click HERE to grab the design in Design Space).  I may be officially addicted to my Maker, between embellishing my sewing projects and cutting materials for my Preschool Classroom!

My other bag I made is the zippered pouch, Mars.  I needed something to sew while my fabric for Saturne was in the wash.  I dug through my scraps and came up with some chambray, Riley Blake Happy Day leftovers, and a cheerful aqua stripe for the lining.  I just love the little details of it -- the tabs by the zipper, the colorblocked pieces, and the corner trim inside.

This was my first experience sewing Jalie Patterns.  I found the pattern professional in appearance and easy to follow, concise directions with computerized images.  I highly recommend!
