Twig and Tale Blog Tour (Featuring Art Gallery Fabric)

Hello and welcome to the Twig + Tale Blog Tour.  We are so happy to be hosting today! We love the new branding and name; its accurately represents the nature and imagination of the Twig + Tale patterns.  We hope you enjoy the patterns we are featuring and remember to scroll to the bottom for a giveaway and to visit the other bloggers on the tour!

Hi, I am Katy from My China Doll, joining the rebranding of Twig + Tale (formerly Big Little Patterns) blog tour on behalf of Pattern Revolution. Art Gallery Fabrics kindly sponsored this tour and I chose to use the gorgeous Pandalicous fabric collection designed by Katarina Roccella. I really love the pastel colours in this fabric line and they motivated me to create a spring inspired collection for my girls, especially as we are heading into warmer weather in the Southern Hemisphere. I made the travellers cape and pixie shorts with pockets for my eldest daughter and a pathfinder vest with pixie shorts for my youngest daughter.

When making the Travellers Cape, I chose the shrug length with a rounded front hem, collar and button & loop closure, I made it in Yinghua Cherrylight fabric, which is such a pretty feminine print and I lined it in a soft quilted knit. I made the capelet reversible too, so it is a versatile addition to my daughter’s wardrobe for warmth on cooler days. The cape can be made with several options including lengths and hoods and is available sized from 3-6months to teens (and there is a separate adult pattern available too). I really liked the shaping around the shoulders, that allowed for a lovely fit and style. The pixie pants are available in size 6months to 10years and for my eldest daughter, I made them with Ni Hao Fairies Yu fabric and the inseam side pockets were made in Yinghua Cherrylight fabric and are just the right shape and size to fit hands or treasures in.

There are a lot of options included in the pathfinder vest pattern from hood shapes, collars, necklines, hemlines, flutter sleeves, pleated back, pockets and button options. I chose to make the standard length, with a rounded hood and a button & loop closure. It comes in sizes 1years to 14years and the vest is completely reversible which I love. I used Hidden Panda Cottonbud fabric which is just so incredibly cute and suited my youngest perfectly! I lined it with quilted cotton knit making it nice and cosy. I couldn’t resist making a fabric covered button with one of the cute panda faces. The pixie pants I made for my youngest daughter was in Zhu Nectar fabric and I made her the size up to ensure room for a nappy. I love the gathered hem with cuffs but definitely recommend measuring the child’s thigh for a good fit (especially if they are deliciously chubby like mine). I didn’t add pockets to the youngest shorts because I tend to find them filled with more undesirable objects than treasure in my eyes.

Many of Twig + Tale’s patterns inspire imaginative play, and allow you to create wonderful costumes for your children. I especially love the wild things collection that are perfect to dress up in. They allow great opportunity for upcycling and are great sews that are suited to be worn year round.

Thanks for reading and happy sewing xx katy
