Aztec Hooded Vest by See Kate Sew

I love fall and winter - and any time that it is cold enough to need layers of clothing.  This hooded vest is just perfect.   The size range is 18m-8 years and includes great details like open welt pockets, a separating zipper, and decorative top stitching.  This vest can also be reversible if you use a reversible separating zipper.  This is the perfect item to throw in the car for day trips or to keep your child warm in the cool morning hours while waiting for the bus.  I can't wait to make up a bunch of these for my kiddos.  And you can make one too - find your Aztec Hooded Vest by See Kate Sew HERE.  And one of our readers will win a copy of the PDF pattern, make sure to enter below.

Now here is Crystal to tell us about sewing up this little number....

---------------------------------------

Hello again! I am Crystal from Stitched by Crystal and I am here today to share my review of See Kate Sew's Aztec Hooded Vest.
I love the cool, urban look of this hooded vest.  And my two year old's loves this vest too, it has pockets, an over-sized  hood (which is perfect for my sons over-sized head), and a zipper, all things he loves to have on his clothes.  His enthusiasm for his new vest doesn't show in these pictures, he was feeling a bit under the weather and was not his usual smiley self.  But he really does love it, he has been asking to wear it every day since I made it.
This vest sews up really quick, I finished it in just one nap time.  The instructions are clear and easy to follow and there are great pictures for every step.  I would say it takes intermediate sewing skills. It has welt pockets that are really simple to sew and a separating zipper that is a bit more challenging, I broke a couple of needles on that one...oops!  There are also instructions for a cool top-stitching pattern.
The vest can be made reversible but you have to have a reversible zipper, which my local fabric store did not stock.  I was bummed, but I still put it on him on the reverse side anyways, it just won't zip.
This vest is a size 3T on my 2 1/2 year old.  He wears 3T in store bought clothes but could really use a 4T in this vest.  It is pretty snug on his belly and I think it could be a touch longer too.  Next time I will be sure to size up.
I made this vest out of micro fleece.  I think it will be prefect for our mild Florida climate. It will also look really cute layered with a coat for those two or three weeks of cold we have!
The pattern calls for 1 yard of fabric for the 3T so I bought 1/2 yard of both the grey and black fleece.  Unfortunately that wasn't enough fabric, I didn't have enough to cut both the hood and pockets from each fabric.  Not wanting to go back to the fabric store, I ended up using some hounds tooth fabric I had in my stash to finish it up (which I think looks better than the black would have anyway!)  You may want to buy a little extra fabric, just another 1/8 of a yard of each would have done the trick.
Overall, this is an awesome pattern!  I can't wait to make more, I am already planning a girly version for my daughter!

I love love love this - your son is just so handsome Crystal.  Here are some of the adorable pictures from our other reviewer, Melissa... can we just say AWWWWWWW, look at that cutie!
