Winter Wear Designs' Women's Aviator Pants

Earlier this week you got to see one of our bloggers share her version of the Women's Aviator Pants from Winter Wear Designs. She even added a fun tutorial to add zippers to the welt pockets! If you missed it, don't fret! You can read it here. Today we have two reviewers talking about their experience with these great pants, so I'll let them get to it!

I have to admit it, I am not a dress up kind of girl.  Sure, I like to get dressed up for a fun date night or a party but for the most part I'm a tennis shoes, flats or Toms sporting girl.  I have seen so many pics of the Women's Aviator Pants by Winter Wear Designs that I am in love with.  I wish I could pull off heels with these pants but that's just not me.   For the most part, I'm a jeans and t-shirt wearing kind of girl.  So here is my version of the Aviators, casual style.

The pattern is very easy and fairly quick to sew.  My measurements were right on the upper edge of the small so I made a medium, that was not smart on my part.  My suggestion is to size down if you are in between sizes.

What is my favorite thing about the Aviator Pants?  My daughter asked me to make her a pair!  That may not seem like a big deal, but my daughter is 15 and a typical teenager.  She really likes my pants and told me several times this afternoon how cute they are.  I love that!

Just a few important features this pattern includes:

  • Table of contents
  • Size chart and fabric requirements
  • Cargo pocket option
  • Welt pocket
  • Drawstring or elastic waistband
  • Fabric suggestions
  • Fit instructions
  • Printing guide
  • Detailed instructions

If you are scared to make a welt pocket, here is your chance!  You need to tackle this pocket because it isn't as hard as you think and you will be so proud of yourself once it's finished.  There are also instructions to add faux piping.

Enjoy!

XOXO,

Kara

Hello Ladies,
My name is Nicole from Once Upon A Princess and I'm here to show you some self-care sewing! I usually pass when it comes to sewing some love for myself. You might ask why?? Well, I don't have a very womanly shape and most patterns are way too big for my body type.

I was so captivated by Winter Wear Aviator Pants. The style isn't something I would have normally would have sewn for myself, but I was determined to get out of my comfort zone and sew these up. I'm so glad I did!! I feel like a woman in these pants they hug every inch of my body beautifully. Suzanne hit a homerun on her design. She took the extra time to really know and understand every body shape and these look stunning on everyone!

Details about this pattern:

  • Size XXS-XXXL
  • Size measurement chart for high hip, hip, and outseam all in inches
  • Fabric yardage charts
  • Different pocket options: cargo, double welt, front, & side
  • Different lengths: triangle cut out, regular hem, & cuff hem
  • Shows how to customize for higher rise, different lengths
  • Knit & elastic waistband, & drawstring waist option
  • Made using knit, slight stretch wovens, denims, & twill

For my Aviators I went with the XXS, regular hem, and knit waistband. I left off the front pockets as I really wanted to show you the beauty of the construction of these pants and how well they hug your body without being overly snug. I also tried the double welt pockets! (Confession: I have never sewn welt pockets, so this was my struggle but, Suzanne links up the most amazing video and she walks you through step by step. My next welt pockets will be perfect. I'm so glad I went out of my comfort zone and did that style of pocket it add the most amazing profile to the back of the pants.)

My fabric was purchased at Joann in the fashion denim section I'm not sure if they carry this same print in store anymore.  I wanted to have a fun pop of color on my welt pockets so I went with some Michael Miller Fairy Frost fabric.  I did a knit waistband and I used a fun leopard print for a fun and unexpected surprise. I used faux stretch suede.

I just love how I can more freely in these pants, I loved all the options that Suzanne walks you though. I'm in awe in how these pants can be made to dress up, dress down, yoga pants, and these will defiantly be your number 1 go to pants to sew up. I'm already planning some fun lounge pants and I'm excited to try out the triangle cut out inserts for a fun look.

These pants really look amazing on all shapes, sizes, and heights. I'm only 4'9" I usually have to over hem for the pants to fit correctly.  I didn't have to on these and I'm excited to try out the cuff hem option on the pants.  I really hope you give these pants a try! I had a wonderful time sewing up some love for myself.
