California Dress and Peplum by EYMM

Hey, Suzanne here, and I'm super excited to share the California Girl Dress from Everything Your Mama Made!(It releases Saturday April 26 in the Bundle Up Bundle!!!!)  I think Kymy may love knits more than I do and that is quite a feat, because I LOVE knits, but she makes the most amazing patterns for both children and women designed for comfy knit fabrics.  I used the Purple Blue Feather Rows knit from Girl Charlee - it is lightweight and perfect for summer, but is a spandex blend so it has great stretch and recovery. (This was leftover from my Out And About Dress - thanks Girl Charlee!)

Let's talk about this dress:

  • First of all, it is reversible.  I chose to have baby girl wear it with the scoop in the front, but next time I'll try the faux halter in the front to see how that looks.
  • You have length options of peplum top, knee length dress, maxi dress, or high low maxi (*now if you choose the high low maxi it is no longer reversible ;op)
  • Clear instructions with step by step pictures and directions for proper construction.
  • QUICK SEW!!!!  I've been sewing some complicated patterns recently for me, and I forgot how beautiful a quick sew is.  I sewed this up in less than a nap time - WOOT!
  • The pages are easy to print and assemble.  The neck and armhole bindings along with the neck strap are included in the pattern pieces, but they don't add extra pages to print since they are small.

While this dress is a simple sew, the bindings and gathered neck strap give it a professional finish and level of interest above just a simple tank dress.  The bindings are so simple to sew on, and the instructions make it even easier - you will want to finish all your knits this way!  I love the knee length because my daughter could run, play, dance, climb rocks, and rule the park without ever getting caught up in what she was wearing. It is perfect alone and could also be paired with leggings and a cardigan for this weather that has no clue what season it wants to be from one day to the next.

This is the size 3 on my just turned 2 year old daughter - now before you start thinking this pattern runs small, my daughter is 99% for both weight and height, 36.5 inches tall at 2!!!!! I picked her size based on the size chart and it was spot on.

I will be making more of these for sure!

Here is the "Girls California Dress and Peplum" by Everything Your Mama Made & More (EYMM).  This is my first pattern by this designer and I got it before it went through the testing phase so I know changes have been made to make it even better.

There are so many things to like about this pattern.  I love options because they provide a variety in your wardrobe.  With this pattern, there are 3 choices.  You can make a maxi or knee length dress or a peplum top.  The dress versions are reversible.  You can wear the scoop neck in the front or back.  Here's a picture of the back so you can see the other option.

I have to also mention the size range.  This pattern goes from newborn all the way up to size 18 Tween.  Woo hoo!  A pattern that will work for all three of my girls.  It's also a style they would all wear.....and right in time for summer!

Here is a list of some of the other things included with this pattern:
*Informative information about working with knits
*Supply list
*Charts for sizing, fabric requirements, and pattern assembly
* Chart with pages to print for your selected size (This is nice because you only print what you need.)

*Clearly written directions with matching pictures
*Fabric cutting diagram
*Pattern pieces for the three different styles
*Tester photos for inspiration

This is a quick pattern to sew and is designed for any level of sewer.  A person who is new to sewing with knits will appreciate the tips for working with this type of fabric. You don't just get a list to use a certain needle or a type of stitch.  You get a brief explanation about each topic so you get a better understanding of working with knits.  You can also click a link to get more detailed information if that is needed.

My only concern about the pattern was that the length seemed a little short but I know that the designer has lengthened the pattern for a better fit.

I also have to give a shout out to Jodie Jean.  She's the designer behind Jocole Patterns.  I have to confess that I own most of her patterns and I have never been disappointed.  I used her skort pattern that you see in the pictures.  I love it paired with this top and it's perfect for summer.  Be sure to check out both of these patterns!

Happy Sewing!
