This hat (review HERE) and bikini were the first patterns I had sewn by Sunday Girl, and it's always a little nerve wracking trying a new designer. How is the sizing? Am I going to understand the instructions? I was pleasantly surprised to find another designer putting out quality patterns; I did not have any problems with either the fit or the construction. The size chart indicated I should make a size 3 and the fit was spot on.

I really like the backside coverage on the bottoms. My baby girl has quite the booty, and playing on the beach means lots of bending over, so I was really happy to find that the generous rise kept her covered despite her gymnastics in the sand.

I did make the mistake of using some cheap elastic in the bottoms at the waist, so I need to go back replace that. As you can see from my photos, baby girl also has quite the belly, so that combined with subpar supplies meant that her bottoms kept slipping down in the front. The photo on the right is more representative of the true front rise of the bottoms.

Both the top and bottom are fully lined and have a very professional finish. I chose to use seersucker fabric because it dries so quickly, but since it doesn't have a lot of body to maintain its shape, I ended up topstitching my straps and button placket to get them to stay crisp. I also used a rolled hem on my ruffles, but those are the only changes I made when sewing the pattern.

I love the bodice details, so cute.

This pattern went together rather quickly. There were a lot of little pieces, so cutting probably took longer than sewing. I'm estimating an hour and a half total from print to modeling. The pattern is a total of 21 pages long, 6 of which are nested pattern pieces. To complete the suit, you need to cut out the pattern pieces and complete the additional cutting instructions since there are a few rectangular pieces that did not have a pattern piece. I prefer this method, but I know some prefer pattern pieces only, so I thought I should mention that. Overall, I was very pleased with the pattern itself and the final product and I would definitely make it again.
