Paisley Skirt and Shorts by My Childhood Treasures

Hello sewing friends! I am an art teacher but I love to sew for my daughter. I have a small page called Stripes and Ruffles.
I was excited to get to review this skirt pattern by My Childhood Treasures. I love the big bow! I also love how it is really two patterns in one because you get a skirt and shorts pattern pieces included. I have the shorts cut out and ready. The pattern had 15 pages to print and assemble. The pages were numbered nice and big in the middle of the page. This made it very easy to put together. I like to lay my pieces down. I have a system for cutting. I leave the first page alone and then for the rest, I cut the bottom of the page and the right side of the page. I do this for each one and then tape them together. Just thought I'd share how I tape my patterns.
I used my current favorite fabric from Michael Miller for this skirt. This is a great pattern to show off cute prints because it isn't a busy pattern with a lot of different pieces. This skirt is a great pattern for beginners. It took me less than an hour to sew the skirt up and make the bow. I would definitely recommend it to someone who is starting out with their sewing but wants something with a cute pop. The pattern includes clearly written directions and pictures to go with each step. This is always a plus. You do not need a serger for this pattern. There are no tricky techniques. There is an optional step to add a few rows of stitches to the bottom, which I added. I think that would be great practice for someone trying to work on sewing in a straight line. My daughter loved her skirt and it fit her perfectly. We went to the neighborhood park to get some pictures. She had NO problem playing around in her skirt.

Hi Everyone! I love to sew for my three girls and I like to make things of varying difficulty levels. As my girls get older and more involved in their various activities, I'm learning that I don't always have as much time as I want for sewing...Yikes!
So, every now and then it's nice to just whip something up that's quick and cute like this Paisley Skirt by My Childhood Treasures. Included with the pattern is also an option for making shorts.
This is a beginner level pattern and the instructions are clear and easy to understand. There is also an accompanying photo to go with each step. Both the skirt and shorts can be made with or without the bow. I chose to add the bow and the optional trim.
I'm glad I did because she really likes the bow and I like how the trim gives it a little pop. I used Ric Rac but lace or pom poms would work well.

Sizes 2-10 are included in this pattern. I made the size 6 and I didn't need to make any adjustments to get the right fit. The designer recommends adding decorative stitching to the bottom of the skirt. I did 5 rows but it's difficult to see with the fabric I used. It gives the skirt a nice texture and it is a fun embellishment feature.
When I make something for one of my girls, the others usually want it too. This will be a good go to pattern for when I need to make something quick and for more than one of them. I can't wait to try out the shorts. Be sure to check out My Childhood Treasures!
