Field Research Pants & Shorts by Scientific Seamstress

Are you ready for some more PANTS!!!!!  Today's review is of the Field Research Pants by Scientific Seamstress.  They pants ZIP off into short - how cool is that!!!!  Perfect for transitioning between seasons and making sure the things you make for your guy will last for a while.

We are also introducing Andrea, the newest member of our team.... take it away girl.....

----------------------------------

Hi, I'm Andrea and this is my first review for Pattern Revolution. I am Mummy to 6 gorgeous boys (yes we own a TV and no I'm not trying for a girl :)  ) and I love finding new and exciting designs to sew for them.  I was very excited for my work (or was it my cute boys?) to be noticed by the Pattern Revolution Team, and to be asked to contribute. I live in Australia and run a small handmade business www.facebook.com/boysterousboyswear.

Boys are happy, cuddly, wonderful creatures; however....  not so much when I go into my handbag after a day out, and one of the little treasures has filled the bottom of it with rocks, shells, 8 legged creatures....don't ask....etc. If you have a 'collector', these pants are perfect, just make sure you check all the pockets before washing.

To be honest, I was a little daunted when I first looked at the Field Research Pants, so many options and details. 'Zippers and Pockets and Belt Loops oh my' ! They looked fantastic and I was unsure as to whether I could 'pull them off' so to speak . What I found, was in typical Scientific Seamstress fashion (pardon the pun) clear, precise, step by step instructions that resulted in a fantastic pair of pants.

The best thing about this pattern is the number of options that it offers (Mock fly,  Belt loops,  Hip pockets , Back pockets and  Side pockets)  I'm sure there is a mathematical equation, and hey I was clever before I had children and I probably could have told you exactly how many different combinations you could make, but for now let's just say its quite a few. The only criticism I have (and it is a very minor one and probably my fault for not measuring first) is that I thought they would have had a slightly looser fit. All in all a fabulous pattern.

These can be made as pants or shorts, perfect for those of us living in '4 seasons in 1 day' climates.
The pattern includes size chart and helpful chart of inseam finished lengths. It also includes separate cutting lines for the waistband to either on the natural waist or slightly lower.
Sizes start from a 3-4 and go through to a 13-14  they are a fantastic option for older boys.
As with all the Sceintific Seamstress patterns that I have sewn with, you are given a printing guide to print out only the size you require – saving on paper usage.
Directions are incredibly thorough – no 'guessing' required.
If you decide to include every option it is a lengthy project. To be honest, with so many little ones interrupting me all the time it is kind of hard to give a true length of time taken, but I would suggest setting aside 3 – 4 hours of uninterrupted sewing time (something I can only dream of) .
I would suggest this is an intermediate level pattern (depending on how many of the options you wish to include) the full version does include zippers and button holes.
