Adaline Dress by Bella Sunshine
/Hey friends! It’s Ari from Max California and this is my first review for the year! Pretty exciting stuff, and I’m stoked that it is something that is fun and vibrant! I stitched up the Adaline Dress by Bella Sunshine Designs, which is the first time I’ve sewn anything by this designer and I have to say I was pretty impressed! There used to be a time in my life where I just made my own patterns just for my kids, and then the big wide world of PDF patterns was introduced to me and I’ve never looked back. I mostly sew exclusively from PDF patterns (when all the hard work is done for you, why not!). Not all PDF patterns are equal though, which is why I really love that Pattern Revolution exists, and I can say that this pattern by BSD was a total dream to sew up. Clear instructions, no guess-work, any information you would need while sewing this up is in this pattern.
I’d say this pattern is suitable for a confident beginner to intermediate sewer, just because I know some things like buttonholes and lining can be intimidating but really, you should just plunge into it because this pattern just gives you all the information you need to know and doesn’t just assume you know what to do. The diagrams for construction are clear and don’t leave you scratching your head and while it’s a simple little design the pattern is easy enough to make into something really fantastic. While I usually like shorter skirts on Eddie, she prefers longer ones and the moment she saw this dress on the hanger waiting to be finished she was already stripping off to get this on (even with the pins in the back instead of buttons!)
You can do colourblocking and use those favourite scraps of fabric for the contrast bodice or you can do it all in one fabric for an equally good-looking dress! I love the piping in some of the examples in the pattern and I’m definitely adding some next time I sew this cutie up; or maybe a pom pom trim? If the dresses we’ve sewn up here aren’t enough to pique your interest then definitely check out the pattern in the shop to see all the dresses that have been sewn up with this pattern: inspiration for days!
And check out Rachels version as well! -Sarah
