Grand Isle Dress and Top by Seaside Notions
/Hi everyone!! I’m back with another review for you all! I can’t even tell you all how long I’ve been searching for a pattern like this. My daughter loves maxi length dresses for the summer and I have been wanting one that just had a yoke, and not a full bodice. As soon as I saw this come across my newsfeed, I knew it was going to be perfect for her!
The Grand Isle by Seaside Notions comes in three different lengths; top, dress, and maxi. I actually made up two versions of this dress, both maxi, and oyu can see the other one HERE. For this version, I used some Art Gallery Fabrics voile on the skirt and quilters weight on the yoke. I made a size 6 because my daughter is in between sizes right now, but I probably could have done a 5 and been fine. The only thing that makes it obvious that it is a little big is that the armscye is a little low and big, but again, I did size up for my daughter. Just something to be mindful of if you make this pattern. The pattern gives you the option of doing a lining, or a facing and I chose the facing just to keep the dress super light and flowy. It will be perfect for our 100 degree summers. If this was a dress for school, I would have lined it because the voile is a little on the sheer side. The only difference between the front and back is that the back yoke is ever so slightly wider.
The yokes are done in a way so that the inside seams are fully enclosed, so it is just as pretty on the inside as the outside. The straps are done as shoulder ties, but I think next time I do it I’m just going to do a regular strap. It wouldn't be adjustable, but my daughter is always bothered by ties on her shoulder and I always worry about them coming undone at school. When you make this dress, you will want to make sure you take a length measurement! I sized up and added a lace trim to the bottom, so I was expecting it to be on the longer side, but it actually ended up being just perfect! If I had just added the hem, I think it may have been a little short. If your daughter likes ruffles, there is also an option to add a ruffle to the bottom. Overall, I just adore this pattern and I already have a dress length one cut out and ready to sew up!!
