Once Upon A Pixel Blog Tour

Hello there! Crystal here, from Stitched by Crystal, and today I have some really fantastic projects to share with you.   They are from a new e-book by Sugaridoo & Studio Koekoek called Once Upon a Pixel.

Once Upon a Pixel is a 60+ page e-book is filled with colorful photos and inspirational projects.  It has over 25 fairytale themed pixel patterns that can be used for cross stitching, crocheting, or quilting.  The book shows lots of creative ways to use the patterns; like pillows, toy bins, and room décor. I haven’t cross stitched in over 20 years, but I couldn’t resist stitching up these adorable fairytale characters!

King, Queen, Princess, Knight and Castle Cross Stitch Patterns

The book has some great tips for cross stitching, quilting, and crocheting with the patterns found in the book, even though my cross stitch skills are a bit rusty, I had no problems following the patterns for these character designs.

Most of my crafting involves a sewing machine, so it was fun to have a project that was portable for a change!  The cross stitching was pretty time consuming, but between a long car trip and sitting in line at school pickup I had 5 characters and a castle stitched up in about a week.

I was going for a fairytale family portrait with this project, the prince and princess for my husband and me, a fairy for our daughter, and a knight and an archer our boys.   The book suggests DMC embroidery floss colors for all the patterns.  I stuck with the suggested colors, but switched up the hair color for the princess to make her a brunette like me.   They are all hanging together on the wall in my craft room!

The second project I mad from the book is a cute owl quilt for a friends new baby boy.  Any of the pixel patterns found in the e-book can be used to make a quilt!  They have some cute ones to choose from too, like all the prince or princess in the cross stitch above or some other adorable animals like a frog, rabbit, or even a unicorn!

Owl Quilt Pattern

The book walks you through detailed steps for making a quilt using their unicorn pattern, I used the same technique using the owl pattern starting with 4” squares of fabric.  The finished quilt is a great size for baby, perfect to throw on the floor as a playmate or use as a cover in the stroller.  And since my quilting skills aren’t rusty like my cross stitching skills, I was able to sew this little quilt up in one afternoon!

This e-book offers some really great fairytale patterns with endless creative possibilities!  It would be a great addition to any crafters library!

Join along with the other stops on the tour to see their creations from the book! The complete schedule is below. And don't forget to leave a comment below for a chance to win a copy of the Once Upon A Pixel E-book!
