FooFoo Threads Josephine Dress and Handmaidens Cottage Tea Party Dress Princess Mashup:
/With a Disney trip in our future, I began dreaming of what patterns to use to make my daughter a dress resembling her favorite princess, Rapunzel. I loved the puffy sleeves and shape of the bodice of the FooFoo Threads Josephine dress. However, I couldn’t pass up the beautiful split overskirt showing the ruffled underskirt of the Handmaiden’s Cottage Tea Party Dress. And so a mashup was born.
I wanted to keep the shorter bodice of the Tea Party dress. I printed the bodice pattern pieces of both the Josephine dress and the tea party dress. After cutting out and taping the pieces together, I laid the Tea Party dress bodice front pattern piece on top of the Josephine dress bodice front pattern piece.
I drew a line on Josephine where I should cut the bodice to make it the same length as the Tea Party dress. I repeated these steps with the back bodice pieces.
Next, I pieced together the pink fabric and the purple fabric to make a pink inset for the front bodice. I made sure the squares I was piecing together were bigger than the front bodice pattern piece.
I folded the fabric in half, making sure I found the center and cut out the front bodice.
Here is the front bodice cut out. You can see that the side seams of my modified Josephine bodice are the same length as the original Tea Party dress bodice. Woohoo!
I am no good at shirring so I chose to do elastic casings on the back bodice. I also used flowers to line the outer skirt instead of the ruffles from the pattern. Everything else I kept true to the patterns’ instructions.
I wanted to surprise Brylee with the dress when we visited the Bippity Boppity Boutique. I had it hidden in a bag and the sweet Fairy Godmother in Training brought it to one of the dressing rooms and displayed it nicely for me. I wish I had a photo! When the Fairy Godmother in Training brought Brylee back to the dressing room, she and I were both in tears….big liquid drops of excitement! Brylee couldn’t believe I had made her a special Rapunzel dress. She got to put it on in front of the magical mirror….but I won’t spoil the surprise for those of you who haven’t been before.
We took many, many photos all over Walt Disney World. I’ll share a few of my favorites!
Have a magical day!
