The Tropical Getaway Swimsuit by Ellie and Mac

Hi all, Tasha from Sewn at Seams and I’m so excited to share with you the first of what is sure to be many, Girl’s Tropical Getaway swimsuits .  This mix and match swimsuit pattern from Ellie and Mac has so many options that I pretty much threw darts to help me decide what to make first. I ended up making a short sleeved cropped length rash guard and matching swim bottoms minus the side cinches.  Other options included in the pattern are a bikini top, swim skirt, and longer sleeve and bodice lengths for the rash guard. The pattern is available in sizes 12 month to Girls size 14 and it’s easy to mash sizes to get a good fit for the wearer.

My daughter is currently taking year-round swim lessons several times a week.  Between forgetting to do laundry and her growth spurts, it is necessary to have a few swimsuits available at all times.  Thankfully swimsuits in her size don’t take much fabric and with all the options this pattern offers I can make nearly all of them without breaking the bank.

The pattern itself was not difficult to sew.  The step by step instructions include clear photographs for each of the available options.  It is separated into sections so you can complete your selected option without having to jump around.  I wanted to point out that the cropped length rash guard does have elastic in the band. This definitely helps to keep it in place because the last thing this Mama or her kiddo want to be worried about is a wardrobe malfunction.

I would recommend The Girl’s Tropical Getaway swimsuit pattern to confident beginners only because you have sew elastic to the bikini bottoms and the top.  Elastic can be intimidating to some but I think the pattern instructions do a great job of walking you through the construction. I’m excited to sew up a few more swimsuits using this pattern.
