Top stitchers’ dream pretty much sums up this amazingly thorough pattern. My boy who is just shy of turning 9 wears a size 14 pants because of his crazy height! I find it hard to find patterns that fit this size. The boys adventure cargo pants have a wide size range (2-14).  There are so many options in this pattern, I have to admit it was a little overwhelming at first. I took the time read through it and realized it is laid out very well, and once you decide whether you want to create the pants as whole pieces or broken down into upper, middle , and lower leg sections, it is easy going. I loved the idea of being able to cut smaller sections and mix and match prints. A great stash buster for me too.

You can also do the front in sections and keep the back of the pants as one large pattern piece or vice versa. The options are endless. Once you have all the sections sewn up you get to assemble the pants and then choose the pockets you want to add as you go. There are many to choose from called “toppers” in the pattern. There are flaps, and straps and details galore. I am a topstitching fanatic and let me tell you there was no shortage of detail to be creative! I used variegated thread on my pants so the threads have a variety of color change. I am a little addicted. The pencil pocket, easy cargo pockets and back pockets were my choices. I added a few buttons for fun.

The back yoke and the construction of the legs at the side really provide a professional finish. The pattern is chock full of information, with amazing directions, photos and a wealth of expertise. I learned new tricks as I made these pants. Who doesn’t love to learn new sewing techniques?

My boy asked for pants that would match the school colors. We are the Seahawks (green/gold) all the way from elementary through high school so hanging out at the football/sports complex is part of our life… He fits right in with his school tee and cool cargo pants! This is the size 14 and it is a perfect fit. There is also an option to make these into cargo shorts and that is next on my sewing table as we have warm weather for a while to go!

My boy has two younger sisters and many times I still want coordinating items for family photos. So without overdoing it, I was able to use the green Anna Maria Horner print from his sister’s dress (Violette Field Threads' Adelaide) throughout the details in his chambray/denim pants. This pattern is perfect for creating the brother/sister set.  Dress these pants up or down; make a million and never two the same!
