Patricia Dress by Simple Life Pattern Company

Hey Everyone!!!  Rebekah from Rebekah Sews here!!  Who is ready for some summer sewing?  I know I am!  Today we have the Patricia’s High/Lo Boho Dress and Top from the Simple Life Pattern Company.  I love flowy boho  and high/lo styles and this one certainly doesn’t disappoint.

Patricia is just beautiful and very girly coming in sizes 2t-12.  It features a top and dress version and a  high/lo hem (dramatic or non-dramatic).  Now I know I said summer sewing, but really this isn’t limited to summer as it does have three sleeve options: sleeveless, short sleeve, or ¾ sleeve (with or without ruffles).  Another great feature is that there are no buttons or anything.  There is a beautiful scoop back with ease built in to be able to easily slip on over the head and was easy to do so even with a squirmy 3.5yr old.  Did you know you can also make this in knit?  It’s not limited to just wovens!

It is recommended in the pattern to make this out of lightweight fabrics.  Of course I like to break the rules slightly and mix things up a bit.  I had two fabrics that looked so yummy together (a striped seersucker, and a floral linen) but of course I didn’t have enough to make the whole dress out of it.  So I needed a third fabric that looked good with these.  I look over on my sewing chair and a scrap of jean is sitting there that matched perfectly.  So my bodice is made of jean!  I think it worked wonderfully and even was perfect for fancy topstitching on the bodice!  I made a 2t width and 3t length (dramatic version) for Ruth.  Now Ruth is a skinny minnie and as you can see from the photos the width is still a tad big on her.  Her chest measures 19 ¾” and for the 2t the chest measurement is 20.5” so I knew it would be a bit roomy and this is no fault of the pattern.  This will just make the dress last longer!!  Ruth loves the dress.  She spinned and picked flowers in it.  Everything a little girly girl would do.  Then she even climbed a tree in it!!! Yes, after the photo shoot she was off before I could deter her.  So this dress is apparently great for tree climbing too!  Don’t we all just love multi-functional clothing?  LOL

This is such a fun dress or top and a pretty easy sew too.  Took about 2 hours with the longest part being the gathering.  The instructions and photos are clear and easy to follow so a beginner could easily sew this up. The end result is something to oooh and aaah about for sure.   I love the drama of the high/lo and definitely plan a top in knit for her summer wardrobe!
